Many organizations have a certain culture that brings an identity to that organization. The culture is a combination of values, attitudes, and beliefs that translate into expectations and actions that we can observe. Coaches talk about developing a certain culture among their teams. Teachers develop a culture in their classroom. Parents can develop a culture for their family. Bosses can develop a culture for their workplace. Customer service can be poor or excellent, and that is often related to the culture of the organization. Can a state have its own culture given the diverse population of the state? South Carolina is known as a "red" state when viewed through the political lens of republican versus democrat leanings. And I think that brings with it a certain culture of more conservative views versus liberal views. But what, specifically, does that mean as far as how South Carolinians act and what is expected of us from each other? What are the values, attitudes, and beliefs that make us different from California, New York, and even North Carolina and other states? What actions might prompt us to say to someone, "That's how we do it here", or "We don't do that here".
One of our license tags has the phrase, "Smiling Faces. Beautiful Places." Perhaps that is an attempt to capture our Carolina Culture in a very brief way.
